    Obviously it’s your money, but you are just lining the pockets of record companies and I doubt if that 45 RPM record sounds that much better than the original, you have to keep getting up every 10 or 12 minutes to turn the thing over, plus you can buy that album on CD for about one dollar. It’s really common.

    IMO sometimes you just have to own more than one copy of an album. I travel a lot to Europe and will not hesitate to buy an OG/early european pressing of an album OG US/UK that I already own. I tend to like more OG/ early pressings over reissues. If i get a great reissue from analogue productions or one of that quality I will not sell my OG, especially a well loved OG pressing that looks beautiful. I also live in NYC, and am amazed when a new pressing comes out the people who will dump beautiful OG pressings at record stores, which I have no problem picking up; I actually cannot believe people actually sell perfectly beautiful, well- loved pressings, for a new one.

    Okay, this is a touchy area and I have to say that when it comes to audiophile sound, outside of the speakers, it is usually the source that affects the sound quality most. What I mean by the source is the actual recorded media. You get so much variation here there it is overwhelming. Variations in pressings is relevant, heck even with CD's there are differences in sound quality. So my take on the situation presented here in buying multiple copies. If you have a cassette only. DEFINITELY REPLACE IT WITH AT LEAST A RECORD! Cassettes are utter junk and really cannot be seriously considered hi-fi AT ALL! Okay that being said. Next is going by the original recording. If it is known to have a good soundstage and imaging quality, then perhaps it might warrant to buy a better recording. I am talking known good recordings from Daft Punk, Steely Dan, Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, Rush. Beatles Abbey Road, Elton John, etc. Then I agree that it might be good to try out different pressings to see what is best and then sell off the 'lesser' copy. However, if a recording is not known for a good sound stage or is noted for any significant sound quality, then I would say no. I am not sure where INXS would fall here or whether it warrants buying a replacement album that cost six times more than the original. If you told me the album was from Steely Dan, then I would say yes, definitely try it out. On the other hand, if it were something electronic from the 80's like Corina, Stevie B, Expose, Company B, then I would probably say no. You might be best off with just a CD from these artists and be done with it. It all really depends on the recording and if it sound stages well. Live recordings probably will be relevant. But if studio recordings are well done, then so would they. It is the type of music as well. Rock Jazz, and classical, yes, but modern electronic music, not always the case. You just have to do your homework to see if it is relevant or not.

    • @MelindaMurphy
      @MelindaMurphy 5 дней назад

      I agree that the way an album is recorded is so important. For the most part, INXS "Kick" was recorded very well but a little bright. This 45 rpm record is an improvement. Steely Dan records were meticulously recorded. 🤗♥️ Thank you and have a great week.

    • @jukingeo
      @jukingeo 5 дней назад

      @@MelindaMurphy I am kind of in a "second phase audiophile" stage of my life and I been doing some more involved research with equipment and recordings. What many people don't realize is how important the source media is. So, yeah, for a good recording, I too, would be on the lookout for better versions of what I might have already. Definitely if it is something that has good spacial and / or imaging. But if it is something that is flat, (with little stereo imaging) or just has reverb for stereo, then no. If it doesn't sound much different from when I am moving around and listening in the background to when I am sitting actually between the speakers, then no. In the first audiphile phase, I had bought a ton of Greatest Hits and compilation albums, mainly because I was a DJ at that time and I needed to carry as much music in as little space possible. But, I am finding out now, many of those compilation albums don't sound good. So, I am finding myself buying the songs I really like (by those artists) on dedicated albums.

    I loved this video for many reasons. The first, OMG, I was laughing my fool head off at the story of your friends making out when they heard your voice on the radio - hilarious!!!!! My story is, I had a modest collection of vinyl which I started collecting in the late 60’s. Then CD’s came out and I lost my mind - no more snap, crackle, pop’s!!!! I got on a mission to replace every album I owned with the CD version. Then I started going to record shows and sharing a table with a friend and was selling the vinyl I had replaced. Sold half of my collection until, one day I did an A/B comparison - vinyl versus CD. WOW - what a revelation!!!!! It wasn’t just a subtle difference that you could kinda hear, it was a mind blowing difference. No contest what so ever, the vinyl won hands down. Then I was furious with myself for selling all my Yardbirds, Kinks, etc. records. While buying CDs, there were titles that I have bought 3, 4, even 5 versions of, always hoping for one that sounded better than the vinyl. Still has not happened yet. So, I’m buying vinyl again. Some of them from your influence. 😁. So, you are not the only one buying multiple copies of the same record! Love your videos!

      I agree with you. CDs are more convenient but vinyl does sound better. At least you haven't sold all of your records. ♥️🤗 I'm glad I was able to give you a laugh. That is a funny story and I always think about it when I hear that intro to Hold the Line. Thank you and take care.

    I'm in the same boat. I own a Rocktober pressing of Kick on green vinyl from a few years ago. I bought the QRP release to sample the Atlantic 75 campaign but haven't had a chance to play it yet. It's the fact that the originals will be valuable, both financially and sentimental wise, over time. So, KEEP BOTH; the best sounding versions and the originals!

    It’s like gambling or drinking…if you’re spending a ridiculous amount of your income and making reckless decisions regarding it, you have a problem. If you’re responsible and keep it in check, you’re fine. Every pressing or format has its advantages and disadvantages.

    The Atlantic represses are a only good if you don't have an original and truly want a decent copy that has re-eq'd for modern tastes. Having multiple copies of the same album, just because is nonsense. Collect to compliment your collection, not expand. Originals were made at the time using the best kit then. It's a time capsule. Want an original Ming Vase, cracked and chipped or an excellent reproduction?

    This is indeed something that others can’t understand. First you want to have some of the comforts of your past psyche around you and second the fact that you can improve upon the artifact now makes it a symbol of how far you’ve come since those past limitations that were imposed upon you. Others who are not in the hobby or can’t find the exit to the collecting maze, they will always have trouble figuring out the inner scrapbooks we have in our imagination and soul. Your husband is not wrong, but neither are you. ❤ And as for that duplicate Alan Parsons album with the gold foil, why can’t you just use it as a display copy as art in your music room? That works and makes it something you need! ❤

    I’m definitely a vinyl hoarder and have multiple copies of several albums. The fact that I received the majority of my vinyl from my mom a few years ago and got me back into vinyl, I can’t get rid of them. The vinyl from the 70’s and earlier is some that I remember from my childhood. My vinyl collecting is mostly collectors edition of vinyl like colored vinyl. KISS is my favorite and have multiple copies of the same album, just special editions releases. I had told you about wanting the alternate cover edition of Creatures of the Night and just got it a couple of weeks ago and also found a version with the S’s that are used for German releases. VH is also one of my other favorites and I have got the Dave album vinyl and Sammy vinyl box sets along with the Right here right now and For Unlawfull Carnial Knowledge that was released last week. I love both vintage and new releases also and have been reluctant on replacing my older stereo equipment, but finally broke down and decided to get a new receiver and speakers but still keeping my old turntable. For me the most extreme case of vinyl collecting that I have heard of is on the KISS US vinyl release RUclips channel that I recently started watching. WOW, I didn’t know that there’s so many variations of labels and album covers. Don’t think I will try to get all of those, but fun to see all of them. No matter how or what we collect, the main thing is if it brings us joy, then it is good and worth sharing in the community of vinyl collectors.

      I agree. It's all about the joy music and records bring. Kiss is an amazing band and so much fun when it comes to collecting. I have most of their albums and a few of the more recent reissues. ♥️🤗 The amount of Kiss vinyl is never-ending. Thank you and take care.

    The earliest record I own is a 1959 first pressing of The Buddy Holly Story. It was my mother's. I started buying records in the early 70s; I have a first pressing of Band on the Run. All still in great shape. No plans for seconds. The only time I buy another copy of anything, it's to replace an LP that's no longer clean enough to enjoy. I wore out my original Dark Side of the Moon. It's noisy, not trash. I bought a NM 1st US pressing. Jacket is only G+, vinyl is clean and clear, NM. I don't replace many albums or buy a second "better" copy. Instead I buy something I don't have. Sometimes choosing something I don't know, in a genre I like. There's always something to explore and expand my horizons. I am really enjoying finding artists that I didn't know.

    Stick within the storage space you have, which I'm guessing you have plenty of, what you buy whether it's sound quality or vintage is irrelevant, if your collection is not spilling out everywhere then what does it matter? A vintage section and a audiophile section in your cube storage is pretty awesome, collect both if that is what makes you happy

    I love spending part of my afternoon watching a new Melinda video... and then some Mazzy as a chaser! I have no problem picking a favorite disc (LP or CD) & saying farewell to the others, although I'll always keep some (not all) records from high school days. OK, I did replace a US copy of Focus' *Hamburger Concerto* ( a crazy, fun album!) with a quieter Dutch pressing 25 years ago. Later I regretted it because the Atco LP had a different guitar solo on one song. I finally bought a used Atco copy 2 years ago... I still haven't played it!

    I'm totally with you in this "conundrum". i never got rid of my record collection. I still have the first album I ever bought when I was 9 yrs old, McCartney's Ram! It's beat to shit but I'll never get rid of it. So yes, I'll own/keep a record for both sentimental and sound quality reasons ( providing I have the space for them)....Good luck with your move!

    It could be that some people (like me) are somewhat perplexed, maybe even bothered, by what looks like "conspicuous consumption; though obviously, what some people may term as "excess", the person actually doing the deed can justify as "necessary". I once had a girlfriend who bought a LOT Of books, probably the way that you buy records, but in her case, she hardly read most of the things she stowed away in our abode! (At least you listen to your hordes of vinyl.) I also have to admit that all the music that I listen to are either mp3 or flac files, or CDs with all of them played through my laptop (with good headphones, however). Would I relish the music even more if I had a decent audio system? Probably... but as of now, I can't seem to summon up the wherewithal into spending all the money needed for such a luxury. Heck, growing up in the sixties, a transistor radio was good enough for me. (Though I also had access to a slightly more sophisticated radio receiver!)

    I would rather have a recent reissue of a title in a record company’s back catalog than a 50+ year old on vinyl because the latest copy on 180g vinyl was mastered from a remastered audio source with the latest bells 🔔 and whistles. New reissues sound the best to me than an older copy.

    1) Keep the 33 for parties, use 45rpm for serious listening. 2) records can sound different after equipment upgrades; tube amplification made early presses sound better than reissues. When you go to tube amplification I bet yr Alan Parsons 1st press will sound better than the mofi which Is likely DSD256. Totally agree with you on chasing the best sounding copy of fave records.

    In my efforts to keep my collection under control I am totally ignoring most of these reissues if I have an OG. I don’t have the stereo that you have so I came to the realization why spend more on these high fidelity albums when I’m not going to get full I,pact of that recording.
